"I honestly don't know why I fish. Or, rather, I fish in order to save my life; I just don't know why it saves my life." -John Gierach
With the recent warming trends we have been seeing here in Colorado, the high country has been opening up and fishing couldn't be better on these high alpine beauties. wild trout on the fly.com staffer Mike Miller hit Lake Gibson (12,000 ft. elev.) this past weekend and the fishing was great and we expect most of the lakes at this altitude will be fishing well also. We feel this is one of the best times of year to fish the high country for hungry cutts and brookies, so get on the hiking boots strap your rod to your pack and go find them. Check out our off the beaten path page for some nice trip ideas. Many of the state's rivers are now dropping back down to fishable levels so check out our reports page for updated info and flow reports for many of Colorado's rivers and streams.
The wild trout on the fly.com headquarters are located along Colorado's front range and we are within two hours of some of the most incredible fly fishing in the Colorado Rockies. Members of our pro-staff are located across the state and provide most of the information for our stream reports. The reports that aren't directly from wild trout on the fly.com staff are posted by fly shops in the region as indicated, so you're getting the best information available on the web. Not only are fishing conditions updated regularly, but you will also find access to current flow rates (if there are trout in it, we have the flows), current weather, fly shops and local guides that can help you find the trout you've been searching for. So check out our current fishing reports page for current fishing reports on some of Colorado's most legendary waters.
Get the felt out! In an effort to help do our part in helping stop the spread of Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS), wild trout on the fly.com staffers have stopped using felt soled wading boots in conjunction with regular boot cleaning. The use of rubber soled boots have been shown to significantly lower the probability of anglers transporting ANS to different waters. We hope that you too will join wtotf and take the extra step to get the felt out, our streams and lakes will thank you for it.
wild trout on the fly.com goes to the movies wild trout on the fly.com is working to release a full length feature in late '09 featuring the wtotf crew. With several Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming destinations planned we hope you will check out what we find on our travels. Check out the short of wild trout on the fly.com's crew fishing several different Colorado waters. If you have a destination you want to share with the fly-fishing community at large, email Mike at michaelmiller@wildtroutonthefly.com and maybe you'll see us in your neighborhood.

This month's featured guide:
Colorado fly guide Tad Howard with another satisfied customer. Photo courtesy Tad Howard.
Tad Howard, owner and director of Colorado Trout Hunters, has been fly fishing for almost 2 decades and has been guiding over half of that time. Though he grew up fishing the streams of western New York, Tad has found his groove here in Colorado. Not only an accomplished angler and guide, Tad also has a degree in law from the University of Denver, which truly shows his dedication to the sport and not the almighty dollar.
Tad probably gets the most satisfaction from introducing the novice to the sport of fly fishing, and the number of returning clients only credits Tad's ability to teach. He is also an avid hunter, chasing everything from birds to big game has helped teach him the ultimate in patience, which helps both his teaching ability and how he catches trout.
The next time you are looking to get into some nice fish and learn from a great patient guide, give Tad a shout at Colorado Trout Hunters and set up a trip.
Colorado Trout Hunters provide guided services on several top notch pieces of private water and with their great guides you couldn't ask for much more in a guide service.
