The Fight for the Right of Way
With tensions growing between a land developer and a couple of rafting outfitters along the Taylor River, the future of Colorado's right of way laws may lay with this battle. For the full story check out the full story by Jessica Fender of the Denver Post.

North Fork of the South Platte Fish Kill
Some anglers may not be familiar with the fairly exclusive fishery that is the North Fork of the South Platte between the Roberts Tunnel and Bailey, Colorado. Most of the water is private with small parcels of public land that most anglers don't even know exist. Recently Denver Water stopped the flow of water from Lake Dillon that helps quench the Eastern Slope's thirst for water. The fish kill that followed destroyed some of the finest man made fishing in the state. Want to read more? Click here to read the full story from Charlie Meyers of the Denver Post.

Denver TU Makes it Happen with Carp Pro/Am Slam m. miller
This year the Denver Chapter of Trout Unlimited, with a little help from Trout's Fly Fishing and the World Fishing Network, held the Third Annual Pro/Am Carp Slam, an event that is centered around cleaning up and preserving the South Platte River as it runs through metro Denver. The event partnered 15 amateur anglers with 15 local pros including the godfather of carp fishing Barry Reynolds. Competitors scores based on the most inches of carp caught over two three hour sessions on randomly picked beats along the S. Platte as it meanders it's way from Oxford Ave. to spots north of Commerce City.
This year saw more carp caught along with some impressive gamefish that were just the icing on the cake. This years honors of Carp Slam Masters went to Amateur Tyler Stuart and Pro Rob Kolanda who made this his second trip to the podium. They hooked up and netted 131" of carp over 5 fish, impressive since they had been blanked on their morning session. This year Trout's Fly Fishing donated the $1000 first prize which was split between the two. With decent fishing and excellent after tournament festivities, I can't wait for next year's slam. For more information on the Denver Pro/Am Carp Slam visit CarpSlam.org or the Denver Trout Unlimited website.
Stopping the spread of invasives The waters that anglers fish in Colorado will only stay pristine if we work together to help keep nuisance species from spreading any further than they already have. Organisms such as New Zealand Mud Snails, Rock Snot (didymo) and Zebra Mussels have all been found in different waters in the state and it is up to those who utilize these resources to maintain their gear in a responsible manner to stop any further spread of these nuisance species to more waters in the state.
wild trout on the fly.com has partnered with Protect Your Waters to help inform the angling public on issues involving invasive species in the state and also provide tips to help stop the further spread of invasive species in the state of Colorado.
